В Мировой в следующем году в группе лидеров (топ-10) буду болеть за Роуланда и Фиссер. Гасли в Мировой вряд ли останется. Окона в GP2 практически наверняка не будет. Итого: в Мировой ДАМС - Де Фрис + какой-нибудь Джаафар, в ГП2 ДАМС - Гасли и Вандорн (интересно РБ выбьет для Пьера первый болид или нет?)

The field was perhaps not as strong as in the previous season, but Carlos Sainz Jr emerged as a worthy Formula Renault 3.5 champion. GLENN FREEMAN rates the top 2014 drivers

Plenty of Red Bull juniors have graduated from Formula Renault 3.5 to Formula 1 in the past, but until the 2014 season none of the energy drinks firm's charges had never won the title.
Carlos Sainz Jr put that right this year with a campaign that was spectacular when he was at his best.
Roberto Merhi, Pierre Gasly and Oliver Rowland led the charge admirably to try to keep the Spaniard in check, and Merhi at least managed to keep the title race alive going into the final weekend of the year.
But there was little disputing Sainz as the master of the 2014 field. The grid didn't quite match the overall level of the 2012-13 seasons (surely the peak of FR3.5's 10-year history), but that was more a reflection on the lack of depth rather than the quality of those at the front.
Here's how the best drivers in the series stacked up in 2014.

1. CARLOS SAINZ JR
DAMS
Champ pos: 1st (227 points)
Wins: 7
Poles: 7
Fastest laps: 6
Had his car fired up on the grid for the season opener, Sainz would have led the points race from start to finish this season. He was dominant on that opening weekend at Monza, but only came away with one win from his two pole positions.
By the time the series left Spa at the start of June he'd notched up four wins from the first seven races, and there already seemed to be an air of inevitability about the destination of the title.
But things unraveled a bit mid-season. Just as Roberto Merhi and Zeta Corse hit a purple patch, Sainz and DAMS struggled at Moscow Raceway and Hungaroring, and in between there was a DNF when he was an innocent victim in a first corner clash at the Nurburgring.
The Hungarian weekend came off the back of Toro Rosso signing Max Verstappen to the Formula 1 seat Sainz had his eye on for 2015, and the way he bounced back to dominate at Paul Ricard was the performance that won him the title.
The fact that he was crowned on a weekend where he failed to score a point in either race is irrelevant. The hard work had already been put in by then.

2. OLIVER ROWLAND

Every driver can bemoan the role bad luck has played in a season, but Rowland's case in 2014 is stronger than most.
Whether it was fuel pressure problems in qualifying, a pitstop clutch failure while in with a chance winning at Spa, or various gearbox gremlins, the Briton just couldn't shake off mechanical woes.
Those problems meant that he was never quite as much of a factor in the title race as he should have been, and in the later stages of the season even Sainz was shaking his head in sympathy whenever he heard of Rowland suffering another problem.
There was little to choose between Rowland and his fellow Formula Renault Eurocup graduate Pierre Gasly, but he gets the nod over the Frenchman because his peaks were higher.

3. PIERRE GASLY
Arden Motorsport
Champ pos: 2nd (192 points)
Wins: 0
Poles: 1
Fastest laps: 3
At times Gasly's rookie season seemed to be ticking along under the radar. He didn't make the splash that his predecessors as FR Eurocup champion, Robin Frijns and Stoffel Vandoorne, made, but he did match the latter's runner-up spot as a rookie.
It would be unfair to judge Gasly's season by the fact that he didn't win a race, since his rate of improvement through the year was high and after the summer break he had developed a level of consistency that belied his lack of experience.
Rowland seemed to get to grips with certain aspects of the step up in category quicker, but Gasly's upwards trajectory bodes well for the future, and it's not coincidence that he emerged as an outsider for a 2015 Toro Rosso F1 drive.

4. ROBERTO MERHI
Zeta Corse
Champ pos: 3rd (183 points)
Wins: 3
Poles: 3
Fastest laps: 1
Merhi's first test with Zeta in pre-season went so badly that he wasn't sure he could commit to a single-seater return after two years in the DTM.
But after some solid points finishes in the early part of the year, the Spaniard took advantage of a perfect storm to catapult into championship contention.
Just as Sainz's season started to hit a few bumps in the road, Merhi went on a roll that included three wins in three weekends in the middle of the season.
It appeared to be a combination of some wet races - Merhi was better than anyone at hustling the car to get the rock-hard Michelin wets to work - and tighter tracks that played into Merhi and Zeta's hands.
That form was unsustainable as the season wound down, and the championship really evaporated at Paul Ricard as Sainz outscored his countryman 50 points to 22.
Remarkably neither of the contenders scored points at Jerez, so had Merhi clocked up two wins of his own on home soil the title would have been his.

5. SERGEY SIROTKIN
Fortec Motorsports
Champ pos: 5th (132 points)
Wins: 1
Poles: 1
Fastest laps: 0
Like Fortec team-mate Rowland, Sirotkin was plagued by reliability gremlins. But aside from an emotional victory on home soil in Russia, the teenager formerly tipped for a Sauber F1 drive didn't ruffle as many feathers as his rookie team-mate.
When both Fortec cars were running smoothly there wasn't much to choose between them, but Rowland usually had the edge.
Understandably, Sirotkin was pleased to see the back of a frustrating season. Best of the rest behind the season's big four stars was a fair reflection on his season, but six non-scores make for painful reading on his record.

6. JAZEMAN JAAFAR
ISR
Champ pos: 10th (73 points)
Wins: 0
Poles: 0
Fastest laps: 0
A season with two podium finishes doesn't make for particularly eye-catching reading, but Jaafar's achievements in 2014 were made all the more impressive by the fact that he didn't have a team-mate all year.
The Malaysian and ISR battled on throughout the campaign with half of the data of the majority of the teams they were up against, and understandably the combination's form fluctuated from one weekend to the next.
The lack of a team-mate often made it hard to recover from a weekend that didn't start well, but nine points finishes from 17 races wasn't a bad return.
Given the amount of noise some other drivers made in the series whenever they were competing without a team-mate, you have to wonder what Jaafar could have made of his second year in FR3.5 if he'd had someone on the other side of the garage to work with.

7. WILL STEVENS
Strakka Racing
Champ pos: 6th (122 points)
Wins: 2
Poles: 1
Fastest laps: 0
Stevens bookended his year with victories, climbing on to the top step of the podium at Monza and Jerez. But, in his own words, "let's just forget about the bit in the middle".
Strakka couldn't get on top of the series' slick Michelin tyres in qualifying trim, so Stevens was usually mired in the midfield. Only five times from 17 did he start on the front four rows of the grid.
On occasions a breakthrough was hailed - following a chassis change at Spa and "going in a different direction" for Jerez (race one) - but both were followed up with more qualifying misery.
It meant that much of Stevens' third season at this level went to waste, and both driver and team will feel that they should have made a better job of solving the problems.

8. NORMAN NATO
DAMS
Champ pos: 7th (89 points)
Wins: 2
Poles: 1

Two victories - including a commanding performance on the streets of Monte Carlo - are not to be sniffed at, but it was the frequency of the anonymous days that makes Nato's season a head-scratcher.
For the second year running he toiled in the other DAMS car while his team-mate won races and stormed to the championship, and even when he took his first win in Monaco he admitted that he needed to work out what was so different about that weekend.
Perhaps he did play a significant role in Sainz's championship, though: his victory in Hungary came in a straight fight with title contender Merhi, and Nato managed to prevent Sainz's lead dropping to just nine points by beating the Zeta driver that day.

9. MATTHIEU VAXIVIERE
Lotus (Charouz)
Champ pos: 8th (83 points)
Wins: 0
Poles: 0
Fastest laps: 0
After sitting out the Spa and Moscow weekends while he recovered from a back injury sustained in Monaco, Vaxiviere returned in fine form and closed out the season with a run of seven consecutive points finishes, including two podiums.
It was enough of a recovery to haul him above his more experienced team-mate Marlon Stockinger - who also had a decent year and is unlucky to miss out on inclusion in this list - and laid a decent foundation for a second season should he choose to return.
One minor blemish on his card was his initial reaction (a combination of nonchalance and giggling) to making an error and sliding into Rowland at the start of one of the Paul Ricard races, but he later revised his "that's racing" assessment and apologised to the Briton in private.

10. NIKOLAY MARTSENKO
Comtec Racing
Champ pos: 14th (36 points)
Wins: 0
Poles: 0
Fastest laps: 0
Yes, he only started four of the season's 17 races, but Martsenko appeared to have found a new level before unfortunate circumstances curtailed his season.
First, he missed the Monaco race owing to the death of a close friend, and he never made his expected return after that because the family funding behind his career was withdrawn.
Prior to those setbacks he was fifth in the standings, and he would have likely remained a regular points contender had his season continued.
As it stands, he has since appeared twice in GP3 at the Red Bull Ring and at Sochi.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Renault paid the price for complacency while the series was flying high, and it was bitten at the start of this year as Carlin pulled out and a handful of other teams struggled to field two cars.
The size of the field fluctuated between 20-23 cars this year, having run comfortably at 26 before 2014.
The French manufacturer has held its hands up to not reacting quickly enough, and in conjunction with a body set up to represent the teams, it has come up with cost-cutting measures for next year.
Formula 1 feeder championships live and die by the quality of drivers they are able to attract, and next year Renault will want McLaren junior Nyck de Vries to have some fierce competition as he steps up from the Formula Renault Eurocup to take over Sainz's seat at DAMS.
