Räikkönen's notes started to hit home in Portugal

Two thirds is behind Kimi Räikkönen's first WRC-season. Kimi has 8 WRC-rallies under his belt and 4 to come. Kimi has scored WC-points four times and he is 10th in the WC-serie. Räikkönen and Kaj Lindström finished the rallies every time except for Mexico. Two weeks ago in Germany Räikkönen got his first fastest SS-time on WRC-level.

Summary rally by rally

Experienced co-driver Kaj Lindström who has been beside Tapio Laukkanen and Tommi Mäkinen has worked the best way as a calm advisor for Räikkönen's new rally career. Let's ask Lindström to shortly summarize this WRC-season with Räikkönen.

Sweden 14.2. (29th) – It was Kimi's first WRC-rally in a WRC-car. It was tricky for him at the point where he had difficulties listening to the notes. A part of the mistakes simply happened because we weren't exactly on the map.

Mexico 7.3. (retirered) – That rally went great until we went off the road. Maybe we braked too late but there were many other things that caused it. The car didn't have a rear spoiler for example.

Jordan 3.4. (8th) – He had a little more patience to drive the right pace and collect experience. It went well.  

Turkey 18.4. (5th) – It was a new rally for everybody and a great drive from Kimi. We also saw the difference when the rally is new for eveybody and everybody started from the same ground.

Portugal 30.5. (10th) – We knew beforehand that Jordan and Portugal will be the most difficult rallies in the beginning of the season - as is Britain's rally too which ends the season. Portugal went well except for the tyre puncture. That's when we were stuck in a ditch for some time.

– All and all it was a mature performance and that's when listening to the note started improving. We are going forward all the time and after Portugal I couldn't say anymore that Kimi wouldn't listen to the notes properly. With that speed you have to start listening to the notes properly.  

Bulgaria 11.7. (11th) – It was a new tarmac rally and there we already had a pace to drive for better positions. We drove beforehand the Lanterna-rally in Italy and that benefitted Kimi without doubt when he got a nice amount of more self-confidence.

Jyväskylä 31.7. (25th) – It was a reasonable performance although driving too fast to one point cost WC-points. It was good that we got to drive through all stages. If Kimi will continue with rally in the future, then it will benefit him that he has finished Jyväskylä's rally with this car and this race pace.

Germany 22.7. (7th) – The dude drove well and had good days again even though he made a mistake on Sunday morning which cost the 6th position. In this rally the thing is to cut a lot and there's a lot of dirt on the road. When you drive there for the first time you don't know what the traction is because there is grass and all kinds of trash on the road.

A difficult start to be expected again

Räikkönen and Lindström won't promise anything beforehand from Japan. – If the old signs are correct, then we can expect a difficult rally. It takes time before we find the right speed for gravel roads, Lindström estimates. – But the next rally in France is on tarmac and it's new for everybody, I'm sure it will help Kimi again. And at least in rally Catalonia we will get on real good tarmac roads.

Kimi Raikkonen Red Bull Challenge

Марина я думаю тебе ещё есть куда расти , не останавливайся на достигнутом,жду от тебя дальнейшего прогресса завтречком в течении дня, с повышением роста скорости новых фоток :D

В общем Кими отработал спонсорские обязательства сполна, улыбался и говорят очень быстро ехал по  скользкому полу торгового центра.

Жаль в классе А8 нет японских авто, думаю они бы себя в Японии-то показали. Да и не подходят Ситроену и Форду японские пейзажи.

статья Култы - он поспрашивал своих коллег о Себе в Спа, в частности о его косяке, и попросил это сравнить с первыми раллийными шагами Кими ))

OH VETTEL!

What a spectacle there was again in Spa. This time the weather was from the most difficult extreme since the track was 90 % dry during the race and then even more slippery for the remaining 10 %.

Sebastian Vettel didn't win, he didn't even score points, but he was the biggest subject in the press room after the race.

Most think that Vettel is the faster and more potentional winner in Red Bull but he has effectively played himself out from both Red Bull's and the WC-battle's lead.

Before Belgium one German colleague told that he had calculated that if everything would have gone according to the plans, then Vettel would now have 128 points more than he has now. After Spa the amount grew again with at least over 10 points.

The collision with Button will go to Vettel as his second biggest blunder since Turkey. On top of that Vettel was clashing horns with Robert Kubica, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Fernando Alonso. That is headache enough for one man.

When I compared Vettel's mistakes to the blunders Kimi Räikkönen has done during his beginning rally career the colleague brothers nodded but found their own interpretations to what happened.

Here it goes:

Michael Schmidt, Auto, Motor und Sport:

– I wouldn't blame Sebastian for inexperience though. All this happened because he lacks patience. He just wasn't patient enough. I do understand him. The speed was so slow that he lost over a second to Hamilton in the 2nd sector which is Red Bull's dominating area on this track.

– Yet Sebastian was driving for the victory and he had to get past Button so that Lewis wouldn't run away.

Is he like Kimi Räikkönen in rally?

– In a way. They both know their speed but the changing factors are risks. It looks like the more pressure Sebastian feels being on par with Webber, the easier these kind of mistakes seem to happen, Schmidt thought.

Mark Hughes, Autosport:

– I wouldn't claim that if Vettel doesn't win the WDC, then it's due to his inexperience. He has enough speed and he knows how to win. But as far as I can see Sebastian has a little bit too much emotion in his ride. He is a very impulsive top sportsman. It has been hindering him but his battle for the WDC is in no way in danger with the speed he has.

– Each time when he makes a mistake he burns his hands. It's the same as if someone cooks water in a kattle, takes it off the stove so that the fingers get burned every time.

Is it the same as Kimi has in the beginning of his rally career - a lot of mistakes?

– For Kimi they come from inexperience, for Sebastian again they come from Webber's results. Mark had in this race all the ingredients to do everything wrong but he recovered very well from his disturbance in the start. One has to keep in mind that Webber has also made a pile of easy mistakes himself and learned from them. I'm sure Mark knows about the tough spot where he has pushed Sebastian in, Hughes ponders.

David Coulthard, BBC:

– It's sure that Seb doesn't have as much experience as these other contenders racing for the championship. Yet Seb is a special kind of guy who strives to take the maximum out of every opportunity.

– Of course you are put up for judgment but I think that too much critisism towards him at this point is completely useless. What do we want from a new star? Someone who can play it safe and wait that others ahead of you fall off..

– Seb is a fighter, he wanted to challenge Button - but just didn't succeed. That's racing.

Are there any similaties to Kimi's beginning in rally?

– Hahhaa… Kimi's challenge is of a completely different caliber, it's gigantic because he lacks the rally-background completely. Seb already has his history from track-racing and F1 too. When you look at what he does with the car it's still completely in his hands.

– No matter what happens this has been a very strong season from Vettel, Coulthard says.

Belgium GP-column

Red Bull is fastly messing up the WDC for their contenders although they have built a superior car just like McLaren-Mercedes did in 2005.

Kimi Räikkönen's WDC was hindered because of the Mercedes-engines breaking easily. In Red Bull again it's hindered by the drivers being prone to errors.

The situation in the Austrian team has culminated when the faster driver Sebastian Vettel is already 28 points behind Mark Webber.

When knowing that the Red Bull -typhoon Dietrich Mateschitz and his advisor Helmut Marko will not agree to demote Vettel as Webber's helping boy, Webber's all chances to fight evenly with Lewis Hamilton who has taken the first status and Ferrari's single card Fernando Alonso, aren't the best. Not even though he has the best car for Singapore, Japan and Korea.

Christian Horner already sighed that he once again has to start analysing Vettel's latest blunders. Just as they shot the first question in the air, a horrible crash was heard from Red Bull's VIP-kitchen when someone stumbled upon a metallic trolley with trays.

– Is Sebastian in the kitchen? someone asked Horner - and he couldn't keep a straight face and started laughing.
